okay. deep breaths, everyone.

`I have absolutely no idea what has happened to the blogger services, but I haven't been able to post for a very, VERY long time... sorry!

`I think you guys seriously should start posting(sorry to those whom I have not emailed...)but the rest... really should try and help... please? So far, besides Mel and I, only Gloria has managed to squeeze some precious time out of her busy schedule to post (and she informs me that she can't afford this anymore.) It really shows how important keeping the class together is to all of you. God know, Mel and I are busy enough, even after exams, what with parents still giving us assessments and not to mention portfolio, but, and I say again, BUT, I have heard people YAYing about how much time they have to watch TV, play computer, etc. You mean this is so important that you can't even spare some time to POST on your own class blog, which is the only 'grapevine' which holds us together after we graduate...?

Seriously.

AND now having fulfilled the duty of posting, I take my leave to do the dreadedest of all dreads: the PORTYfolio.

What does it really mean to be secure? Somewhere you feel you can stay forever? A place where you feel at home? This is rather questionable. We feel secure at our school, and with our friends and our teachers. But can we really stop time and remain there for all eternity? No. We still have to move on, make new friends, and yet keep the old. An uphill task.

But sometimes, keeping old friends means making friends with them all over again. If not, we simply deceive ourselves, and our supposedly "best friends" will drift apart, and become strangers, unknown to us. (this paragraph is answering Kim's question.)

I think security means that we feel safe at a certain place, and naturally it is human nature to not want to leave. But we still have to move on, one day. Keep that memory tucked away in some corner of your heart, and you will be certain to find that special place again someday.

What are friends? Are they just a passing breeze? Enemies? A passing storm? Maybe you befriend them because they are popular; or likeable. Maybe Friendship is just- a word.

I think we lose friends too fast. I think that vows of friendship are too easily cast away. They may have been meant when they were spoken, but they were soon cast to the winds, leaving the other rain. What was the forever that we spoke of? Where IS the forever that we spoke of not long ago? Have we found new friends? Can we have others while keeping the old friendship still?

I remember. you said to me 'forever friend'. you said that you would always know me as your best friend. forever. I remember. You said so many things which filled my heart with joy- only to watch you walk away from me. You never looked back. Sometimes I wonder if you even cared.

I don’t know. Maybe you just befriended me to increase your ‘social status’. Maybe I was just a new toy to you; to be played with just for a while, then to be thrown away, to be forgotten, never to be seen again.

Until you can make use of me again.

Maybe not. But how would I know?

I make friends again after these casting-aways, of course. And again. All my memories of the times my best friends and I have shared together are and will always be burnt deeply into my mind.

But they never stayed.

Most went away.

Sometimes I run through these memories to look for some clue of the fact that you only wanted to use me.

I found some,

Others, not.

Rachel. Melissa. Wei Ting. My best friends last year. Rachel and Melissa again this year. Wei Ting and I still try to keep up, and still talk during recess.

But it’s not the same anymore.

Something seems to have gone out-vanished from our friendship.

Are the teachers partly to blame for separating us?

Yes, I think.

We were happy in 415. Very happy together. If we never really met 414, we couldn’t have really made friends, we would be simply acquaintances. But now we have make lots of friends, only to be separated again.

Please spare us the heartache!

Oh please spare us from the tragedies of separation!

Yes, I know that it is ‘all for our own good’. Of course I know that. Everything teachers do are with perfectly good intentions

But I have lost too many friends to the separation of classes to appreciate that ‘all for your own good’ line.

And also, remember that ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’, as Charles Wallace from our dear storybook AWIT said..

It also makes me wonder.

Maybe it could have worked if we had tried harder. Maybe not. But maybe.

Maybe you couldn’t care less.

As you can see, all my experiences have made me cautious, cynical, and paranoid.

And I believe that I have many good reasons for being so.

My experiences have carved my character; my soul.

I am afraid that if I give my heart and my soul to you in friendship, it will be shattered, and I will lose another bit of my soul. And I will become a shell, a husk, after a while. A body without a heart or soul. I am afraid.

Should I trust you? Why should I? Maybe you do mean it, but if circumstances separate us and destroys our friendship, my heart will shatter. True, time will piece it back again, but some pieces will be lost to me, and my heart will be broken, incomplete and imperfect. Like a pottery bowl which was broken and pieced back again.

I am afraid that me friends will e lost to me. And I am afraid that I might one day find myself an empty shell, devoid of emotion, unable to love again.

Here is the point where the principals, the MOE will have to choose:

The psychological well-being of a child?

Or the academic excellence of the child.

The decision is laid out in their hands.

AT this rate, the ‘future generation of Singapore’ which is out ‘only hope’ will not have friendship that can endure the trails and the tests of the years. Maybe we will become an efficient, excellent community with Nobel prizes and so on.

But we will be an uncaring society.

A society devoid of emotion.

A society made out of robots.

OUR society made out of robots.

Hold fast your friends, for if they die
